Smashing Pumpkins release American Gothic EP; no one really cares.

Alright, so I might get some flak for the title of this one (especially from bbby's better half) but it's true. No one really cares about the Smashing Pumpkins anymore. Sure they released a full length back in the heat of '07 that surpassed all expectations for the newly reformed Pumpkins, but did that really catch the attention of the music world? Not really. The LP was only slightly better than expected but it still wasn't that great an album. Not only that but the "new" Smashing Pumpkins are just a different reconfiguration of Zwan...so in fact you can say that the "new" Smashing Pumpkins are actually just a "new" Zwan playing Smashing Pumpkins covers...does that make sense?

Anyways, yesterday they released a short 20-minute 4-track EP entitled American Gothic and it's...uh...well...it's actually alright. The lyrics still lack the torment of old Billy; the first lines of track Again, Again, Again go "I love you / I don't even care." - masterful Bill, masterful. The lyrics, although shitty, do work well with the sound but is it just me or do they sound like they're trying to be the Foo Fighters? Anyways, the EP is worth the 20 minute listen but don't expect too much.

I'm going to throw on Mellon Collie and cry over spilt milk.
