Vampire Weekend is one of my favourite discoveries of 2007. The New York group hasn't yet released an album per se, but a bunch of tracks have been made available through the band's website and as a digital download EP from iTunes, and everything I've heard thus far has been fantastic. The band recently signed to XL Recordings and a debut album is planned for January. Read more about that here. As for the more recent future, new single 'Mansard Roof' is due to be released October 22nd. For a sneak preview, look below.

How considerate of you to give awat nearly half of the tracks on the band's upcoming debut album for free. You're really helping them out.
Actually, most of these tracks have already been made available for free download from www.vampireweekend.com. In fact, the ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’ mp3 link in the post above directly sources the band's website.
As for helping out the band, I bought the A-Punk/Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa 7”, ordered tickets for their upcoming show here in London and convinced a bunch of friends to come along, and plan to buy their full-length in January.
Oh yeah, I wrote about them on my blog, too.

Technology truly has become one with our daily lives, and I think it is safe to say that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory decreases, the possibility of transferring our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could see in my lifetime.
