FR1D4Y 51V3

Behold several tracks that have been spinning on high rotation, both on my computer and in my head.

After boasting about how great Crystal Castles are and how good 'Death' by White Lies is, why not post that remix the Castles did of said track.

White Lies - Death (Crystal Castles remix)

New stuff from Sebastien Grainger's self-titled LP. More rock than dance, but I'm feeling it.

Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains - (Are There) Ways to Come Home?

Aparently Iran (the band) is nothing new, but I first heard them recently with their track 'Buddy'. TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone is a member of the band and Dave Sitek, of TVOTR, helped to create those layers of noise that permeate his work.

DJ Z-Trip, who I am totally unfamiliar with makes just the right tweaks to this Motown staple. The results are a crisp, funky mix of Michael at his pre-pubescent best.

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back (Z-Trip remix)

Epic. Space. Disco. Three of my favourite things, and they all exist on Lindstrom's latest 55 minute, 3 song, Where You Go I Go Too.

Remix S-Monday - DATA feat. Sebastien Grainger

Due to technical difficulties with my house's wireless network, BTA presents Remix S-Monday!

My roommate and fellow BTA contributor, Matty B., showed me this track a week or so ago. Apparently, French producer DATA isn't anything new but I only recently got hooked on the different incarnations of his track "Rapture". The original track, and accompanying remixes, feature former Death from Above 1979 drummer/singer Sebastien Grainger singing about some girl "telling her lies again, running around with other men" reminding me of his DFA79 days.

The original is a dark, '80's-inspired, synth number with a little guitar wankery and Grainger's sexually fuelled vocals. This track could have been called "Nightdrive", but Kavinsky already penned that (in a good way).

Then DatA apparently reworked the track into "Rapture Pt 2" by dropping a suspiciously Timbaland-influenced beat and putting some reverb on Grainger's vocal track to heighten the tension. Definitely a slow burner, but I'd go nuts if I heard this in da club.

DATA - Rapture Pt. 2

Finally, we have Edwin Van Cleef's remix of "Rapture" which cements the original even deeper in '80's nostalgia. Beginning with some menacing drum pounds and minor chords, it quickly gets washed in bright synths creating a more uplifting take on the original.

Festival Season: Contest - Osheaga, Aug 3 & 4 - Montreal

Yesterday, Osheaga announced their final lineup additions for their fall festival, happening August 3 & 4th at Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal. The new heavy hitters are clearly Metric and N.E.R.D., but the new supporting cast is pretty solid in its own right. Sebastien Grainger (of DFA1979 fame) and the Mountains have been added to the lineup, as well as my personal Toronto alt-folk favourites The Wooden Sky.

BTA will be on the grounds covering the entire festival, and we've also got a pair to give away, all courtesy of Gillett. If you'd like to spend your August long weekend in Montreal checking out a slew of fantastic local, Canadian, and International talent, just send us an email with the subject line "Osheaga, son!". Contest closes Sunday, July 20th at Noon.

The Wooden Sky - Darker Streets Than Mine
Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains - American Names
