Walk in the Park

No, he's not Mexican. El Guincho is the recording alias of Spaniard musician Pablo Díaz-Reixa. Similar to Panda Bear's solo work, El Guincho's sound comes heavily from the sampling of old Afro beat tracks and more tropical tones with a dub sensibility. The comparison's with Panda Bear are extensive, and sometimes I feel like I'm even hearing the same stuff. El Guincho's work is a little more 'tropical' and bright sounding because of the heavy dub influence over the sunny samples. Indecipherable Spanish chanting, tribal rhythms and a feel-good attitude make this stuff shine. He's got an album out called Alegranza and he tours sometimes.

This El Guincho guy reminds me a little bit of a Mexcian DJ counterpart going by the moniker Instituto Mexicano Del Sonido (Mexican Institute of Sound). We found some tracks by him a couple years ago and were blown away by the 'world sound'.
