Mumford and Sons cover White Lies

Mumford and Sons were on the air this morning on the 'Like a version' segment on Triple J. Oh what silly and playful banter the guys have. In the segment they play their song 'The Cave' as well as a great cover of 'Unfinished Business' by the White Lies. You can stream it below or head right here to download it in full.

Well if you were listening to the hottest 100 countdown on Triple J yesterday during Australia day, you heard that the land down under voted the number one song of 2009 to be 'Little Lion Man' by Mumford and Sons. Great track but somewhat of a surprise for their number one spot. Obviously this top 100 list has a bit of bias towards some of the years homegrown acts like Hilltop Hoods and Art vs Science, but it's still a nice sum up of 2009 in music. Grizzly Bear Covers Hot Chip

I'm a fan of Grizzly Bear. I'm also a fan of Hot Chip. So naturally I was smitten when Grizzly Bear played a set on Triple J yesterday covering...wait for it...Hot Chip. Mumford and Sons

I was fortunate enough to stumble across Mumford and Sons this week while listening to Australia's Triple J radio station. This London quartet have been talked about for some time now here and there. Better late than never on these guys I reckon. Although their sound is primarily rooted in bluegrass, the band seems to have found a niche in the indie scene. The infectious banjo riff and four part harmonies of their first single, 'Little Lion Man' are fantastic. It really gives me an east coast folk vibe for you Canadian readers fortunate enough to live or visit that side of the country. They have already been recognized for their talents by DJ's and award panelists on various fronts. The band is currently playing a ton of sold out shows between now and the end of October, when their debut album Sigh No More is set to be released on Island records, who they have recently signed with. Remix and Mo' Sunday

It seems as if many of us are over the remixes for the time being, and I would have to agree. After being inundated by countless mixes and mashups over the summer months (where our boy Girl Talk triumphed over all) I for one feel like I need something fresh to keep up the spirits in the dark winter months of this hemisphere. So I'm just going to do both.

I just can't get enough of T.I and his shenanigans. This DiscoTech remix adds some blips and more of an electronic flow while staying pretty true to the track. Love that beat though.

Now for something fresh. Deep Sea Arcade is one of the latest bands to be unearthed by Australian radio station Triple J. With several festival appearances approaching due to this, these guys won't be unsigned for long. The eerie Beatles like track 'Crouch End' has quickly become a new favorite of mine. Although I'm not sure about the whole 'Arcade' and reference to an element in the band name. Kinda sounds familiar..?

And the lord said...let there be new wave electro pop for all.

If you put Crystal Castles and Mates of State together in some crazy experiment, you might get something resembling Perth's Voltaire Twins. Having performed a mere fifteen or so shows and only a few demo's to speak of, the wonder twin duo have caught the attention of several labels and are currently a featured group on Australian radio station, Triple J. Catchy hooks and synth heavy bass lines are what make "Disco Intelligent Light" a fun dance beat. Having already backed some big Australian names, and heading out to support Ladytron in October, you may start to hear more about James and Tegan Voltaire. I'm looking forward to hearing more from these guys once they've recorded their debut EP, currently in the works. This will probably eliminate any of the mic or pitch issues people have with these early recordings. It will be interesting to see where they take their sound. Wonder twin powers, Activate!
